Sarah Catherine Stewart, daughter of John and Francis Lewis Steart was born near Darlington Indiana in 1854 on the farm known as the old Stewart homestead. At 16 she united with the ME Church of old Salem near her birth place. She united in marriage to J.N. Hammack in 1881. To this union two children were born: Ernest P. and Eva Pearl, Pearl having died at age 9. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her loss one son, EP Hammack of this city, one sister, Mrs. Emma J. Mount, one brother, W. C. Stewart both of Crawfordsville, and two grandchildren, Thera Bernice and Theresa Blanche Hammack and a host of warm and loving friends who will deeply mourn her loss. She was a true devoted wife a kind and loving mother and we can that to know her was to love her. She lived a true consistent life and we believe our loss is her gain. - transcribed by kbz
